MANDATORY COURSES OUTLINE OF COURSES

A. PUBLIC RELATIONS (COMMUNITY & CUSTOMER) (4 HRS)

Objective: To familiarize and instruct the individual on the understanding of the proper attitude, appearance, and conduct for a security professional. This course will also provide information on harassment and discrimination. Additionally, provide training and instruction on dealing with persons in crisis, under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and/or persons with a diminished capacity. The training will include lecture, discussion, and inter-active practical exercises.

B. OBSERVATION & DOCUMENTATION (4 HRS)

Objective: To familiarize and instruct the individual on the understanding of observations and documentation. This course will provide instruction on patrol functions, and proper documentation. Also included in this block of instruction will be interviewing, note taking, and effective report writing. The training will include lecture, discussion, and inter-active practical exercises.

C. COMMUNICATION AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE (4 HRS)

Objective: To familiarize and instruct the individual on the understanding of effective communication. Discuss key elements of successful interaction, active listening, and appropriate responses. This course will also provide instruction on resources and references. The training will include lecture, discussion, and inter-active practical exercises.

D. LIABILITY / LEGAL ASPECTS (4 HRS)

Objective: To familiarize and instruct the individual on the understanding of California’s legal system, as it pertains to criminal, civil, and administrative laws. Provide instruction on the differences between criminal and civil laws. Provide an understanding, through instruction and examples, of the risks and liability of professional security service. Additionally, instruction and exposure will be provided with respect to criminal offenses often encountered by security personnel. Individuals will also be instructed on Business and Professions Codes, and the value of conforming to established policies and procedures. The training will include lecture, discussion, and inter-active practical exercises.

ELECTIVE COURSES OUTLINE OF COURSES

A. ARRESTS, SEARCH & SEIZURE (ADVANCED)

Objective: To familiarize and instruct the individual on the understanding of the laws of arrest as it pertains to private persons. Provide examples and explanations for the use of reasonable force. Provide a general understanding of probable cause, immunity, and false imprisonment. Individuals will also be instructed on the laws regarding search and seizure of persons, property, and personal affects. The training will include lecture, discussion, and inter-active practical exercises.

B. TRESPASS

Objective: To familiarize and instruct the individual on the understanding of civil and criminal trespass. Provide instruction on trespass to land, property, and other dwellings. Also included in this block of instruction will be applicable laws regarding prohibited conduct in places of public accommodation, and the constitutional rights of public assembly. The training will include lecture, discussion, and inter-active practical exercises.

C. HANDLING DIFFICULT PEOPLE

Objective: To familiarize and instruct the individual on the understanding of dealing with persons displaying unusual behaviors. Provide instructions and tools for dealing with, and diffusing potentially violent encounters. Provide individuals with an understanding of cultural differences which may assist in the diffusing of problematic situations. The training will include lecture, discussion, and inter-active practical exercises.
